Meet North Inc’s Dynamic Corporate Trainer, Miquel Romera Marco

Here at North Inc, we know the reason behind our continued success is our hardworking, resilient, and adaptable team. It is thanks to them that we continuously excel quarter after quarter. There have been a few individuals that have gone above and beyond the last year, and today, we are thrilled to shine the spotlight on one in particular – Corporate Trainer, Miquel Romera Marco! At just 23-years-old, Miquel has achieved so much and played a pivotal role in our business’s success throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. We recently asked him a few questions to better understand his driven mindset and eager attitude!

Born and raised in Barcelona, Spain, Miquel has always been passionate about sports. As a child, he dreamt of becoming a pro skater like his idols Paul Rodriguez and Ryan Sheckler. As he aged, though, his interests turned to golf and tennis, and it was there that he learned the importance of having a strong work ethic, time management, and the power of a dedicated mindset. In time, he became solely dedicated to golf, which eventually led him to St. Louis on scholarship! While he loves the game, once competing in a few tournaments after graduation, he decided to pursue other passions while practicing his skills on the green on Sundays.

As not only an essential member of our team here at North Inc but as a husband to Alyssa and father to fur-children Luka and Posie, Miquel depends on the skills he learned throughout his sports days to push him to excel and grow day after day. When discussing his greatest accomplishment to date, he said that coming to the States on his own and learning a new language was at the top of his list. As you can see, his determined attitude has taken him far in his short life, and with his family backing him, his future is looking incredibly bright!

Miquel always knew that sales, marketing, and entrepreneurship were his strong suits. So, when deciding what to pursue a career in, the decision was pretty simple. On August 7th, 2019, he walked into his first day of work at North Inc and has been smashing his professional goals ever since. In this time, he says that he’s learned about how important sales are in general and, most importantly, how to coach and train others. He believes that to excel as a leader, you have to be open-minded, non-judgemental, and have high levels of awareness. While extremely rewarding, coaching is also incredibly challenging. When you work hard to train someone, and the results don’t match the expectations created, it can be disappointing. However, this has taught him how to work with different personality types and how to persevere.

As we’ve said, Miquel describes himself first and foremost as a family man. He is inspired daily by his wife and is motivated to work his hardest to make a better life for his family. While money plays a large role in this, he is mainly looking to gain control and freedom over his time; this is something that his father instilled in him. To Miquel, success is about choice and having the opportunity to make his own decisions instead of relying on others to do so for him.

To say that we are proud to have Miquel as a part of our team at North Inc would be an understatement. He was a key component in the obstacles we overcame throughout 2020 at the hand of the COVID-19 pandemic. The past twelve months were challenging, but with him pushing and encouraging us forward, we thrived! His intelligence, attitude, and eagerness for knowledge are next to none, and we can hardly wait to see what the future holds for this rising star. Don’t miss out as he continues to excel this year; follow us on Instagram now@NorthIncSTL!

Breaking into the industry with Alyssa Sams

Born and raised in St. Louis, twenty-two-year-old HR Director, Alyssa Sams, has found in a few months what some work an entire lifetime to achieve: proper growth, opportunity, and a future. Sams joined the North Inc team in May of this year, swerving childhood dreams of becoming a veterinarian. “I have always loved working with people,” says Sams, “I always found myself in sales and management positions, so this was not far off, but I never thought I would have the opportunity to be a Human Resources Director at North Inc. When the opportunity came up, there was no way I could say no. COVID-19 was a struggle initially, but finding this job has been the silver lining.”

When she’s not building teams and creating success in the North Inc office, Alyssa Sams can be found wedding planning with her fiancé; save the date, April 2021! Entrepreneur, fiancé, animal lover; who is Alyssa Sams? How did she make her way to our office? If you’re seeking answers to these questions, you’ve come to the right place.

Where did your career begin?

“I completed a few years of college but had to withdraw due to personal reasons. At first, joining the workforce at such a young age and full time was difficult, but it allowed me the freedom to gain experience, and find something that I was excited to do every day. I am a firm believer that if you work hard and put your mind to it, you can do anything you want! You may not get there in a conventional way, but you will hit your goals every time with the right work ethic.”

What do you bring to the table at North Inc?

“My passion and commitment towards the job. I don’t think it’s necessarily about the actual job itself, but about the bigger picture that comes with being a recruiter in this organization. Not only do I want to succeed, but I go to work wanting to help the people in my office reach their goals every day as well.”

Are you a competitive person?

“I would not really consider myself competitive in everyday life, but I don’t mind a little bit of competition now and then! I was a competitive gymnast when I was younger, and I played team sports throughout high school.”

What’s your personal experience at North Inc been like?

“Not only am I gaining tangible skill sets that I did not have before this position, I am finding new motivation/motivators every day, and it has shown me a future that I never imagined I could have for myself.”

What have you found to be most challenging in this career?

“Working from home has been a much different environment than I am used to; my dog thinks it is playtime 24/7, but it is the new normal, and it gets better every day.”

What do you feel is your greatest accomplishment to date?

“Although I could not finish my education and get a degree as I had hoped, I have worked very hard to build a career for myself. At twenty-two years old, I am very proud of the experience and professional growth I have already accomplished.”

What are you passionate about?

“I love working out and being active! I am a member at Orangetheory Fitness, and I go on a run every morning, and try to go to the gym every day.”

What motivates you to wake up and go to work?

“The people I work with and the opportunities for growth that live here. I am lucky enough to have an amazing relationship with our CEO, Rebby, and working with her makes every day enjoyable. Also, the fact that I have so many opportunities to grow in so many ways is motivation to do my best every single day.”

Will you leave our readers with a final piece of advice?

“Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and take on new challenges. You might be pleasantly surprised at where you end up!”

As a natural introvert, Alyssa Sams is used to independence. It makes sense, then, that for this young entrepreneur, real success means freedom. “To be in a position where I get to make decisions for myself and work in my own time, that’s success,” says Sams. How does she keep moving forward? For Sams, that motivation comes from her mother. “My mother is my biggest inspiration,” says Sams, “after she had my brother and me, she left the Marine Corps, and as a single mother moved back to STL. She worked incredibly hard every single day to provide the life she wanted my brother and me to have, and I would not be half the woman I am today without her guidance.”

Creative ways to build your business: thinking outside of the baggage claim

United Airlines has come up with a creative new service to offer their passengers, one that allows them to skip the hassle of the baggage claim entirely.  Teaming up with Bags VIP, United Airlines is offering same-day baggage delivery to passengers arriving in Boston, Chicago, Honolulu, Houston, Los Angeles, and Orlando- with the hopes of eventually expanding the service to more than 190 domestic airports in the next year.

The service isn’t necessarily cheap, but it’s not all that expensive either.  For $29.95 you can get one bag delivered within 40 miles of the arrival airport, $39.95 for two bags, and $49.95 for anywhere from three to eight bags.  After 40 miles, delivery is available up to 100 miles for an additional $1 for every mile.  Unfortunately, this price is tacked onto to the cost of bags on the plane in the first place.

Given that United Airlines has an entire department dedicated to making sure that its customers are happy (Marketing and Loyalty), it makes sense that United would work to implement something like this.  After all, when so much of the flight boarding process seems like a cattle call, it’s nice to have services like this which call back to the golden days of air travel.  Something that takes what is an intensely boring chore, and makes it just a little more fun.

Will it make much of a difference though?  As far as United is concerned, this isn’t much of a risk.  Their partner, Bags VIP, is stomaching most of the cost.  All United has to do is make a couple of infrastructure changes, such as giving out special tags that correctly identify the luggage, and advertise it.  If it attracts more customers, great!  If not, no loss.

And with profit margins for airlines being what they are, it is certainly worth the risk.

There is one quality that one must possess to win, and that is definiteness of purpose, the knowledge of what one wants, and a burning desire to possess it. – Napoleon Hill

The art of communication is the language of leadership. – James Humes

5 North Inc. presents the most important character traits for a leader

According to Mike Bormant, CEO of Blue Coat Systems, there is one attribute that is the single most important trait that any leader must cultivate.  It’s humility.  It is a trait that allows a leader to share credit, to network, and to help bring up other people underneath you to lead as well.

Humility also shows vulnerability.  Many people would rather hide their vulnerability, they would like to come across as perfect and without a fault.  But perfect people don’t need anyone else’s help.  They are un-coachable, unable to take advice or listen to suggestions… even if it is absolutely necessary.  If you can’t take criticism well, then you are never going to be able to learn from your mistakes and become a better leader.

Bormant also argues that it is important to be positive.  It’s not that you believe that there isn’t anything that you can be taught, but “an infinite amount of self confidence” means that you can approach any issue with the belief that you are going to be able to get everything you need out of it.  You can see a problem with the knowledge that, if you just work hard enough, you’ll be able to solve it.  And if you believe that then you are much less likely to give up when the going gets tough.

This ties back into another important character trait.  It is important for a leader to hustle, to keep moving rather than spending time complaining about how the world isn’t fair.  A good hustler, according to August Turak, seeks out “life’s toughest challenges just for fun, and they like nothing better than being told “You can’t do that!” just so they can vigorously retort, “Oh yeah? Just watch me!”

For a hustler, a problem is just something that you don’t have a solution for yet.  There’s no giving up for a hustler, eventually they will find an answer, even if it is as audacious as it is innovative.  Hustlers try every possible solution before admitting defeat, and often bark up every single tree until they find what they need.

5 North Inc. presents- the Ergonomic Office

A vast number of Americans spend their entire day in an office, sitting in front of
a computer screen while they work. But as research continues to emerge, more
and more offices are seeing ergonomic changes becoming mainstream and widely
acceptable. We’re tired of Americans being dubbed “lazy” and “fat,” and something’s
got to change if we’re going to shake that label.

Sitting all day, even if you exercise regularly, is harmful to your health. After an hour
or more of sitting, the production of fat-burning enzymes begins declining rapidly,
sometimes getting cut up to 90 percent. That means that while you’re busy sitting,
your body isn’t burning fat the way it should. Sitting also slows down your body’s
metabolism of glucose and reduces good cholesterol, which means you’re more at
risk for developing heart disease and Type 2 diabetes.

So, what is the average office-working American to do? We still need to work, but we
shouldn’t have to face such dire health concerns just to make a living. The answer
is in ergonomic office design. According to Dr. James A Levine of the Mayo Clinic,
ergonomic offices, once seen as odd and unique, are “totally mainstream now.” He
adds, “There’s been an explosion of research in this area, because the health care
cost implications are so enormous.”

It’s not uncommon to see ergonomic keyboards, mice, and chairs; but further than
that, adjustable workstations are now becoming popular. Workers can sit or stand
throughout the day, and some desks even have a treadmill underneath so employees
can walk while working.

Over the past five years, Steelcase, a giant in office furniture production, has seen its
adjustable desk and treadmill desk sales go up by five hundred percent. And while
Steelcase is certainly the most prestigious maker of ergonomic stations, its prices
ranging from about $1,600 to over $4,000, many smaller companies are catching on
as well. One, Ergo Desktop, sells adjustable desks ranging from $260 to $600.
